We were busy in the last lockdown. Although we carried out less commercial waste collections, the skies were blue for about a month, and many people were adjusting to working from home or being on furlough. This gave them time to start garden clearances, prepare for growing vegetables, create BBQ and hot tub spaces and making a clear area for their children to play. We did a huge number of garage clearances, which were fantastic for unearthing items to recycle – often finding tools to be re-used or sold. It was a great opportunity for declutter in order to get to the bicycles, pump the tyres and go on family bike rides.
In this period, Roupcycle took over Duty Calls, a clinical waste and feminine hygiene company. Previously run by Pam for 20 + years, she sold in order to work alongside her husband as a driving instructor. The lockdown was a great opportunity for us to meet many of the new customers. The yellow bag, sharps boxes and sanitary units are collected from areas such as Hampshire, Surrey, Berkshire and London and as far as Bedfordshire, Essex and Hertfordshire. Our customers from range from large corporate offices, football stadiums and theatres to aesthetic clinics, podiatrists and chiropodists.
With more people working from home after the lockdown had eased, we have never been busier with our confidential shredding drop-in service. Good job too, in order for the paper to be 100% recycled back to products such as loo roll – which was in high demand as we all know!
With the new lock down, we will still be offering our paper shredding collections for home workers and domestic customers, and the drop-in service remains open. Bank statements, end of year accounts, your telephone notes and doodles, we shred it all. Businesses must stay GDPR compliant, regardless of any lock down restrictions.
We have increased our wheelie bin collection rounds, taking on new trade waste customers. We also receive more enquiries from homeowners requiring a regular home bin collection. This increase in waste is mostly due to higher levels of online shopping and more members on the family being at home in the day.
Scrap metal prices went up! Plumbers especially were happy weighing in.
We noticed after the lockdown, the increase in man and a van companies doing rubbish clearances for cheap rates and fly tipping. This continues to be a national issue. Please ensure, whoever takes your waste is a licenced waste carrier, you are issued with a waste transfer note and the company use a licensed waste transfer station. These rogue collectors include those offering tip runs to the council tip, as it is not a commercial site.
Well…. who knows what this lockdown will bring? Roupcycle will still be open for rubbish clearance, confidential paper shredding and clinical waste collections. With your rubbish out the front and on an anytime collection, we can offer 10% discount on rubbish clearance. Please call the office as normal or book online.
Stay safe all
